Tour Overview

This private Sharm El Sheikh city tour shows you the town beyond your resort in one relaxed afternoon and evening. Sharm is spread out along the coast rather than built around one old centre, so having your own driver and guide makes it easy to see its different sides without haggling over taxis between them.

You start at the Heavenly Cathedral, a Coptic Orthodox church with a richly painted interior, then head to the Old Market, where the white Al Sahaba Mosque rises above lanes of spice, perfume and lamp shops. As the light fades you walk along Naama Bay, the first resort area in Sharm, and finish at SOHO Square, which is at its liveliest after dark.

There is time to shop if you want to, but nothing is compulsory. The tour runs in the late afternoon and evening, when it is cooler and the market and squares are busy. Because it is private, you can linger where you like, add dinner in Naama Bay or ask your guide for tips on restaurants, beaches and excursions for the rest of your stay.

Highlights

  • The Coptic Heavenly Cathedral with its painted interior
  • Al Sahaba Mosque, the landmark of the Old Market district
  • Guided walk through the Old Market’s spice, lamp and souvenir shops
  • Evening stroll on the Naama Bay promenade
  • SOHO Square and its fountains after dark
  • Private car and guide, with no shopping stops forced on you

Itinerary

16:00 – Hotel pickup

Your guide and driver collect you from your hotel in a private air-conditioned car or minibus. On the way, your guide explains how Sharm grew from a small fishing and military post into one of Egypt’s main resort towns.

16:30 – Heavenly Cathedral

Visit the Heavenly Cathedral, a large Coptic Orthodox church whose walls and domes are covered in colourful religious paintings. Entry is free; dress modestly with shoulders and knees covered, and follow staff instructions on photography, especially during services.

17:15 – Al Sahaba Mosque and the Old Market

See Al Sahaba Mosque, built in an Ottoman-inspired style with tall minarets. Visitors can usually enter outside prayer times if suitably dressed; women need a headscarf. Then walk with your guide through the Old Market, browsing spices, lamps, textiles and souvenirs at your own pace.

18:45 – Naama Bay

Drive to Naama Bay for a walk along the seafront promenade, lined with cafes, restaurants and shops. Your guide points out the bay’s history and gives tips for eating out. There is time for a coffee or juice at your own cost.

19:45 – SOHO Square and return

Finish at SOHO Square near Sharks Bay, a pedestrian square with fountains, lights, restaurants and an ice rink. Watch the fountains if they are running that evening, then return to your hotel around 21:00.

Good to know: Mosques may close to visitors during prayer times, especially on Fridays, and church access depends on services. The fountain show at SOHO Square runs on its own schedule.

Frequently Asked Questions

What should I wear?

Comfortable shoes and clothing that covers shoulders and knees, as you will enter a church and possibly a mosque. Women should carry a light scarf to cover their hair in the mosque. Evenings can be cool from December to February, so bring a light layer.

Will I be taken to shops for commission?

No. The Old Market walk is for atmosphere and you can shop as much or as little as you like. Your guide can tell you what fair prices look like and help you bargain, but there are no compulsory shopping stops on this tour.

Can we change the stops or timing?

Yes, the tour is private, so you can spend longer in the market, skip a stop or add a dinner in Naama Bay. Tell your guide on the day, or let us know when you book if you want a different start time.

Is it suitable for children?

Yes. The walking is easy and flat, and children usually enjoy the market and the lights at SOHO Square. Children under 6 are free and ages 6 to 11 pay half price.
