Seeing Cairo in one day from the Red Sea is possible, but it is exhausting. This 2 day Cairo trip from Hurghada splits the journey with a night in a comfortable 4★ hotel, so you have time to enjoy the Pyramids, the Grand Egyptian Museum and the old city without watching the clock. You travel in a private car with your own driver, and a private Egyptologist guides you at every stop.
The road from Hurghada to Cairo takes about five to six hours each way. We leave early so you reach Giza by late morning, then spend the afternoon at the Grand Egyptian Museum, where the full Tutankhamun collection is now on display. Day two covers Islamic and Coptic Cairo and the bustling Khan el-Khalili bazaar before the drive back to your hotel.
Entry fees for the main sites are included. Going inside a pyramid costs extra and can be paid on the day. If you would rather save time on the road, we can quote for flights between Hurghada and Cairo, which take about an hour. The trip runs on any day of the week, and because it is private, you can ask your guide to spend longer at the places you enjoy most and skip anything that interests you less.

Itinerary
Day 1 – Hurghada to Giza and the Grand Egyptian Museum
Your driver collects you from your Hurghada hotel at around 4am for the five to six hour drive to Cairo, with a rest stop on the way. You meet your Egyptologist at Giza and explore the Great Pyramid, the pyramids of Khafre and Menkaure and the Great Sphinx, with time for photos from the desert viewpoint. After lunch at a local restaurant you visit the Grand Egyptian Museum, home to the complete Tutankhamun collection. Check in to your 4★ Cairo hotel in the evening.

Day 2 – Old Cairo, Khan el-Khalili and return to Hurghada
After breakfast you visit the Citadel of Saladin and the Alabaster Mosque of Muhammad Ali, with wide views over the city. Next is Coptic Cairo, including the Hanging Church and the quiet lanes of the old Christian quarter. After lunch you stroll through Khan el-Khalili, Cairo’s historic bazaar, where you can shop for spices, lamps and silver or stop for mint tea. In mid afternoon your driver starts the journey back, reaching your Hurghada hotel in the late evening.

Good to know: GEM tickets are booked online in advance. Mosques can close to visitors during Friday prayers, so on a Friday we adjust the order of the Citadel visit.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long is the drive from Hurghada to Cairo?
The road journey takes about five to six hours each way, depending on traffic and checkpoints. The car is air conditioned and your driver makes rest stops along the way. If you prefer, we can quote for a flight instead, which takes about an hour, though you still need to allow time for the airport.
Can we go inside the Great Pyramid?
Yes, but it is not part of the standard entry ticket. Your guide can buy a ticket for you on the day if tickets are available. The passage inside is narrow, steep and hot, so it is not ideal for anyone with claustrophobia, knee problems or breathing difficulties.
How and when do I pay?
There is no deposit for this trip. You pay on arrival, usually when your driver collects you or at your Hurghada hotel the day before. We will confirm the total price and your pick-up time in writing when you book.
Is this trip suitable for children?
Yes. Splitting the journey over two days makes it much easier for families than the one day version. Children under 6 travel free and ages 6 to 11 pay half price. Let us know if you need a child seat in the car and we will arrange one.
What should we wear and bring?
Wear comfortable shoes for sand and uneven ground, plus clothing that covers shoulders and knees for mosques and churches. Women may need a scarf for the Alabaster Mosque. Bring a hat, sun cream, a small overnight bag and some cash for tips, drinks and souvenirs.
