Tour Overview
Sharm El Sheikh is about 500 km from Cairo by road, too far for a day, so this Cairo shore excursion from Sharm El Sheikh goes by air. A one-hour domestic flight takes you to Cairo, where your private Egyptologist guide and driver show you the Great Pyramid, the Sphinx and the Grand Egyptian Museum before you fly back the same evening.
It is a long and tightly timed day, and we want you to know that before you book. Door to door it takes 14 to 15 hours, and it depends on that day’s flight schedule, so it only works for ships that are in Sharm from early morning to late evening or overnight. Send us your ship’s name and port times first. We check the flights, confirm a realistic plan in writing, and tell you plainly if the timings do not work.

Itinerary
05:00 – Meet at Sharm El Sheikh Port
Our representative meets you at the cruise terminal and drives you about 20 minutes to Sharm El Sheikh International Airport, helping with check-in for your early-morning flight to Cairo. The flight takes about one hour. Bring your passport, as it is needed for domestic flights. Times depend on the flight schedule for your date.
08:00 – Arrive in Cairo
Your Egyptologist guide meets you in the arrivals hall at Cairo International Airport, and your private air-conditioned vehicle takes you across the city to Giza, about an hour depending on traffic. Your guide uses the drive to introduce Old Kingdom Egypt.
09:00 – Giza Pyramids and the Sphinx
Walk around the base of the Great Pyramid of Khufu, drive to the panoramic viewpoint for the classic view of all three pyramids, then finish at the Great Sphinx and the Valley Temple of Khafre. Entry inside the Great Pyramid needs a separate ticket.
11:30 – Grand Egyptian Museum and lunch
The Grand Egyptian Museum is fully open, a few minutes from the pyramids. See the colossal Ramesses II, the Grand Staircase and the Tutankhamun galleries with the gold mask, chariots and jewellery. Lunch is at a restaurant nearby or in the museum complex, fitted around the visit.

15:00 – Fly back to Sharm El Sheikh
Your guide takes you back to Cairo Airport in good time for the late-afternoon or early-evening flight to Sharm El Sheikh. On landing, our driver meets you and returns you to the cruise terminal, usually between 19:30 and 21:00 depending on the flight.
Good to know: This excursion depends on domestic flight schedules and needs a port call from about 05:00 to 21:00, or an overnight stay. Flight delays are outside our control; we always book the latest return flight that leaves a safe margin before all-aboard and will not sell this tour if it does not.

Frequently Asked Questions
What happens if a flight is delayed?
Delays are rare on this short route but can happen, and the ship will not wait for an independent tour. That is why we only offer this excursion when the return flight lands at least two to three hours before all-aboard. If your ship’s call is too short for that margin, we will say so and suggest a Sharm tour instead.
How long does my ship need to be in Sharm El Sheikh?
Roughly 16 hours, for example 05:00 to 21:00, or an overnight call. The exact window depends on the flight schedule for your date, which we check when you enquire. With an overnight call, you can also take our 2-day Cairo by air trip from Sharm and stay a night in Cairo.
Do I need my passport?
Yes. Egyptian domestic flights require a passport for foreign travellers, so take it ashore with you and keep your cruise card too. Please send us the names exactly as they appear in the passports when you book, so the flight tickets match.
Can I visit the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir instead?
Yes, on request. Tutankhamun’s treasures are now at the Grand Egyptian Museum, which is closer to the pyramids, but the older Egyptian Museum in Tahrir Square still holds a superb collection. Swapping can lower the price slightly, as its ticket is cheaper.
