Tour Overview
This Cairo and Nile cruise 7 days package fits Egypt’s essential sights into one well-paced week. You spend two nights in Cairo for the Giza Pyramids, the Sphinx and Saqqara, fly south to Aswan to join a 5-star cruise boat for three nights on the Nile, then end with Luxor’s West Bank and a final night in Cairo before a morning at the Grand Egyptian Museum on the way to the airport.
Sightseeing is with private Egyptologist guides and private air-conditioned transport, while the cruise itself is shared with other guests on board. Both internal flights, all entrance fees in the itinerary, hotel breakfasts, full board on the cruise and lunch on the Giza day are included, so you only need to budget for drinks, tips and optional extras such as the Abu Simbel trip or a balloon flight over Luxor.

Itinerary
Day 1 – Arrive in Cairo
Our representative meets you after passport control at Cairo International Airport, helps with your visa and luggage, and takes you by private car to your 4-star hotel. The rest of the day is free to rest after the flight. In the evening your guide calls to confirm the next day’s pickup time and answer any questions about the week ahead. Overnight in Cairo.
Day 2 – Giza Pyramids, Sphinx and Saqqara
Start early at the Giza Plateau to see the pyramids of Khufu, Khafre and Menkaure, the panoramic viewpoint and the Great Sphinx beside the Valley Temple. After lunch at a local restaurant, drive south to Saqqara for the Step Pyramid of Djoser, the oldest large stone building in the world, and a decorated Old Kingdom tomb. Back at your hotel by late afternoon. Overnight in Cairo.

Day 3 – Fly to Aswan, Philae Temple and the High Dam
Transfer to Cairo Airport for the morning flight to Aswan, about 75 minutes. Your Aswan guide meets you and you board your cruise boat in time for lunch. In the afternoon visit the High Dam, with views across Lake Nasser, and go by motorboat to Philae Temple, the island sanctuary of Isis that was moved stone by stone to save it from the rising water. Dinner and overnight on board in Aswan.

Day 4 – Sail to Kom Ombo and Edfu
The boat sails north in the morning. At Kom Ombo you visit the unusual double temple of Sobek, the crocodile god, and Haroeris, plus the small Crocodile Museum. Continue to Edfu, where a horse-drawn carriage takes you to the Temple of Horus, the best-preserved temple in Egypt, with its complete pylon, halls and sanctuary. Sail on towards Luxor. Overnight on board.

Day 5 – Luxor: Karnak and Luxor Temple
Arrive in Luxor and visit Karnak, the vast temple complex of Amun, with the Great Hypostyle Hall and its 134 columns, obelisks and sacred lake. In the late afternoon, walk through Luxor Temple as the light softens and the stones are lit for the evening. Free time on board in between, and an optional Karnak sound and light show at night. Overnight on board in Luxor.

Day 6 – Valley of the Kings and flight to Cairo
Disembark after breakfast and cross to the West Bank for three royal tombs in the Valley of the Kings, the terraced Temple of Hatshepsut and the Colossi of Memnon. Transfer to Luxor Airport for the afternoon or evening flight back to Cairo, where our driver takes you to your hotel. Overnight in Cairo.

Day 7 – Grand Egyptian Museum and departure
Check out and spend the morning at the Grand Egyptian Museum next to the pyramids, now fully open. Your guide leads you up the Grand Staircase of royal statues to the Tutankhamun galleries, where the boy king’s treasures are displayed together for the first time. Afterwards, transfer to Cairo Airport for your flight home. Flights leaving after 16:00 work best.

Good to know: Cruise boats set the sailing schedule and visit times, which can change slightly; every site listed is still included. Aswan to Luxor 3-night cruises usually depart on set weekdays, so we fit the Cairo days around your boat. Day 6 and 7 can be swapped if your flight home leaves early.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many nights are in Cairo and on the cruise?
Six nights in total: two nights in Cairo at the start, three nights on the Nile cruise from Aswan to Luxor, and one final night in Cairo after you fly back from Luxor. That leaves the last morning free for the Grand Egyptian Museum before your flight home.
Is the whole trip private?
The sightseeing is private: your own Egyptologist guide and air-conditioned vehicle in Cairo, Aswan and Luxor. The cruise boat is shared with other travellers, as on all regular Nile cruises, but your guide still takes your group to the temples on your own schedule where the boat allows.
Can I upgrade the hotels or the cruise?
Yes. We can quote 5-star hotels in Cairo and a deluxe or luxury cruise boat, or add an extra night in Luxor or Aswan. Upgrades change the price, so send us your dates and preferences and we will send a clear quote before you book.
Can Abu Simbel be added?
Yes. Abu Simbel can be visited on Day 4 morning by road from Aswan, leaving very early, or by a short flight, then rejoining the boat. It is a long but worthwhile day. Ask us when booking, as it depends on your cruise boat’s sailing time.
What is the best time of year for this trip?
October to April is the most comfortable, with warm days and cool evenings. Summer is very hot in Aswan and Luxor, so we start sightseeing early. Christmas, New Year and Easter are the busiest weeks and carry a 20% supplement, so book well ahead.
