Tour Overview
On Monday 2 August 2027 the Moon will pass directly in front of the Sun over southern Egypt, and our 2027 solar eclipse tour puts you in Luxor to see it. Near Luxor, totality lasts about 6 minutes 20 seconds, one of the longest total eclipses anyone alive today is likely to see, and it happens in the early afternoon, around 13:00 local time, with the Sun high overhead. Watching day turn to dusk above the temples of ancient Thebes is an experience few places on earth can match.
The trip runs on fixed dates, from 29 July to 5 August 2027. You spend three nights in a 5★ hotel in Cairo, visiting the Pyramids, Saqqara and the Grand Egyptian Museum, then fly to Luxor for four nights in a 5★ hotel. Eclipse day is day five, with a relaxed morning, a prepared viewing site and a celebration dinner. Around it you explore the Valley of the Kings and Karnak with your private Egyptologist, and sail on the Nile at sunset.
Please plan for the heat. Luxor in August is regularly above 40°C, so we start sightseeing early, rest through the hottest hours and keep the eclipse viewing site shaded, with plenty of water. Skies in Upper Egypt in summer are very reliably clear, but nobody can guarantee the weather on a single day. Hotel rooms in Luxor for eclipse week are limited and already in high demand, so we strongly recommend booking early. There is no seasonal surcharge on this departure.

Frequently Asked Questions
What happens if it is cloudy on eclipse day?
Upper Egypt in early August has some of the most reliably clear skies in the world, which is one reason Luxor is such a good place to watch this eclipse. Even so, nobody can guarantee the weather on a single day. If conditions look uncertain, our team will watch the forecasts closely and move to a better spot nearby if that is possible.
How hot will it be, and how do you manage the heat?
Very hot. Luxor in August is often above 40°C, and the eclipse happens around midday. We start sightseeing early, rest through the afternoons and set up the viewing site with shade, seating and plenty of cold water. Bring a wide-brimmed hat, loose light clothing, high-factor sun cream and a refillable bottle, and drink water steadily all day.
Do I need special glasses to watch the eclipse?
Yes, for every phase except totality itself. We provide eclipse glasses for each traveller, and at the briefing we explain exactly when to wear them and when it is safe to take them off during totality. If you want to photograph the partial phases, your camera or phone needs its own solar filter, which you should bring from home.
Why should I book early?
Luxor has a limited number of good hotels, and this is one of the most anticipated eclipses in decades, so rooms for eclipse week are already in high demand. Domestic flights will fill too. Booking early is the best way to secure a 5★ hotel and your place on this fixed departure from 29 July to 5 August 2027.
How do I pay for the tour?
Because this package includes hotels and domestic flights, we ask for a deposit when you confirm so we can secure those bookings in your name. The balance is paid on arrival in Egypt. We will send the exact amount and payment details with your confirmation, and you are welcome to ask us anything before you commit.
