Itinerary
09:30 – Hotel pickup
Your guide and driver collect you from your hotel and drive to the museum on Al-Mathaf Street in the old city centre, usually a 15 to 30 minute ride. On the way, your guide outlines the founding of Alexandria by Alexander the Great in 331 BC and the Ptolemaic dynasty that followed.
10:00 – Ptolemaic galleries
Begin with the early Greek rulers of Egypt: portraits of Alexander and the Ptolemies, temple statues carved in Egyptian style for Greek kings, and the black granite Apis bull from the Serapeum, dedicated under Emperor Hadrian. Your guide explains how Serapis was created to unite Greek and Egyptian worshippers.
11:00 – Roman Egypt and daily life
Continue to the Roman galleries, with marble emperors, painted mummy portraits and coffins, then rooms of mosaics, delicate Tanagra figurines, glass, lamps and coins that show how ordinary Alexandrians lived, worshipped and traded across the Mediterranean.
12:00 – Garden and return
Finish in the museum garden among larger architectural pieces and sculptures, with time for questions and photos. If you wish, your driver can drop you at the corniche or the Bibliotheca Alexandrina instead of your hotel. Most guests are back by around 12:30 to 13:00.
