Tour Overview
Egypt is a wonderful place to travel with children: pyramids, mummies, boats and beaches all feel like something out of a storybook. This family Egypt tour is planned around shorter sightseeing sessions, early starts to avoid the heat and plenty of downtime, so younger travellers stay interested and parents get to enjoy it too. Your private Egyptologist is used to telling stories that work for children as well as adults.
You start in Cairo with a camel ride near the pyramids and a visit to the Grand Egyptian Museum. A short flight takes you to Aswan, where you board a 5★ Nile cruise ship with a sun-deck pool. Over three nights you visit a Nubian village, see the crocodile mummies at Kom Ombo, ride a horse-drawn carriage to Edfu and explore Karnak and the Valley of the Kings in Luxor.
The trip ends with two nights on the Red Sea in Hurghada at an all-inclusive 4★ resort with a kids’ club, pools and a sandy beach. Your guiding and transport are private, so you set the pace, and our team can arrange child seats, connecting rooms and early meals when you ask in advance. If a child needs a nap or a swim, your guide simply adjusts the plan, with no group to keep waiting.

Itinerary
Day 1 – Arrive in Cairo
Our representative meets your family in the arrivals hall at Cairo International Airport, helps with visas and passport control and takes you to a private air-conditioned vehicle. Child seats can be fitted if you request them when booking. The drive to your 4★ hotel usually takes 45 minutes to an hour. The rest of the day is free to rest, swim in the hotel pool and adjust to the time difference. Your guide calls in the evening to plan the next morning.
Meals: None
Day 2 – Pyramids, Camel Ride & Grand Egyptian Museum
Start early at the Giza Plateau while it is cool. Your Egyptologist brings the story of the pyramid builders to life, then the family takes a short camel ride from a licensed operator for photographs with all three pyramids behind you. Visit the Great Sphinx before lunch. In the afternoon, explore the Grand Egyptian Museum, where children can see Tutankhamun’s gold mask, his chariots and even his childhood games. Your guide keeps the visit focused on the most exciting pieces.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch
Day 3 – Fly to Aswan, Philae Temple & Board the Cruise
Fly from Cairo to Aswan, a journey of about an hour and twenty minutes. Your guide meets you and takes you by motorboat to the island Temple of Philae, dedicated to the goddess Isis. Board your 5★ cruise ship for lunch and settle into your cabins. In the afternoon, take a boat along the river to a Nubian village, where brightly painted houses line the bank and you can enjoy tea with a local family. Some families even meet pet baby crocodiles.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day 4 – Kom Ombo & Edfu
Have a lazy morning by the sun-deck pool as the ship sails north. At Kom Ombo, visit the double temple of the crocodile god Sobek and the small Crocodile Museum next door, where mummified crocodiles are always a favourite with children. The ship continues to Edfu, where a horse-drawn carriage takes you through town to the Temple of Horus, the best-preserved temple in Egypt. The ship’s schedule decides the exact timing, so visits may move between days.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day 5 – Sail to Luxor & Karnak Temple
Relax on deck while the ship passes through the Esna lock, which children usually find fascinating to watch. After arriving in Luxor, visit Karnak Temple, with its giant columns and sacred lake. Your guide turns it into a treasure hunt, looking for carvings of animals and hidden hieroglyphs. Return to the ship for dinner. Older children and teens may enjoy a short evening visit to Luxor Temple, beautifully lit after dark, if everyone still has energy.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day 6 – Valley of the Kings & Drive to Hurghada
Disembark after breakfast and cross to the West Bank. In the Valley of the Kings, your ticket covers three painted tombs from those open on the day. Stop at the Colossi of Memnon for photographs, then begin the drive to Hurghada, about four hours through the desert in a private air-conditioned vehicle, with a rest stop. Arrive at your all-inclusive beach resort in time for dinner and an early night.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day 7 – Beach Day in Hurghada
A full day to play on the beach, splash in the pools and try the resort’s kids’ club. If the family would like an outing, we can arrange an optional semi-submarine trip to see coral and fish through large underwater windows without getting wet, or a snorkelling boat trip to Giftun Island for confident swimmers. Both are easy to book through our local team. Remember plenty of sunscreen and shade, as the sun is strong even in winter.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day 8 – Departure from Hurghada
Enjoy breakfast and a last swim before check-out. At the agreed time, our driver takes you to Hurghada International Airport, usually 20 to 30 minutes away, for your flight home. Many airlines offer direct flights from Hurghada to Europe. If your family needs to fly home from Cairo instead, we can add a domestic flight from Hurghada at extra cost and provide meet and assist for the connection.
Meals: Breakfast
Good to know: Cruise timetables decide when Kom Ombo and Edfu are visited. The tour ends in Hurghada; a flight to Cairo can be added.

Frequently Asked Questions
What ages is this tour suitable for?
It works well for children from around four years old, and teenagers usually love it. Babies and toddlers are welcome too, though a lightweight pushchair or baby carrier helps, as many sites have uneven ground and steps. Children under six travel free and those aged six to eleven pay half the adult price.
Can we get connecting rooms or a family cabin?
We request connecting or family rooms at every hotel and on the cruise ship, and most can offer them if we book early. Cruise cabins usually take a maximum of three people, so families of four or more often take two connecting cabins. Tell us your children’s ages when enquiring so we can check availability.
Is the food suitable for children?
Yes. Hotels, the cruise ship and the beach resort all serve buffets with familiar choices such as pasta, chicken, rice, bread, fruit and desserts alongside Egyptian dishes. Stick to bottled water for drinking, which we provide during tours. If your child has an allergy or special diet, let us know before you travel.
How do you handle the heat with children?
We start sightseeing early, keep most visits to the morning or late afternoon, and build in rest time around midday. Bring hats, sunscreen and refillable bottles. From May to September it is very hot in Aswan and Luxor, so families often prefer October to April or the school holidays around February and Easter.
