Tour Overview
This Cairo and Sharm El Sheikh holiday splits a week neatly between Egypt’s ancient monuments and some of the best snorkelling in the world. Three nights in Cairo give you time for the Pyramids of Giza, the Grand Egyptian Museum, Saqqara and the city’s Islamic and Coptic quarters at a comfortable pace, with a private Egyptologist and air-conditioned vehicle throughout.
A one-hour flight then takes you to the southern tip of the Sinai Peninsula. Sharm El Sheikh sits on the Red Sea where the desert mountains meet coral reefs, and many resorts have their own reef within swimming distance of the beach. Three nights at an all-inclusive 4★ resort leave you free to swim, snorkel and rest, with nothing booked unless you want it.
If you would like to explore, we can arrange a boat trip to Ras Mohammed National Park, one of the Red Sea’s most celebrated marine reserves, or an overnight climb of Mount Sinai to watch the sunrise followed by a visit to St Catherine’s Monastery. Both are optional and can be booked before you travel or once you arrive. If you would rather do nothing at all, that is perfectly fine too.
Highlights
- Pyramids of Giza and the Great Sphinx with your own Egyptologist
- Tutankhamun’s treasures at the Grand Egyptian Museum
- Saqqara’s Step Pyramid, the royal mummies and Khan el-Khalili
- Domestic flight from Cairo to Sharm El Sheikh
- Three nights at an all-inclusive 4★ Red Sea resort
- Optional Ras Mohammed snorkelling or a Mount Sinai sunrise climb
Itinerary
Day 1 – Arrive in Cairo
Our representative meets you in the arrivals hall at Cairo International Airport, helps with the visa and immigration formalities and escorts you to your private air-conditioned vehicle. The drive to your 4★ hotel usually takes 45 minutes to an hour. After check-in, the rest of the day is yours to rest after the journey. In the evening your guide calls to introduce themselves, confirm the pick-up time for the morning and answer any questions about the days ahead.
Meals: None
Day 2 – Pyramids of Giza & Grand Egyptian Museum
Your Egyptologist collects you after breakfast for the Giza Plateau. Walk around the Great Pyramid of Khufu, enjoy the view of all three pyramids from the panoramic viewpoint and visit the Great Sphinx and the Valley Temple beside it. An extra ticket allows entry inside a pyramid. After lunch, spend the afternoon at the Grand Egyptian Museum, where the complete Tutankhamun collection is displayed together, including his gold mask, chariots and gilded shrines.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch
Day 3 – Saqqara, Royal Mummies & Khan el-Khalili
Drive south to Saqqara for the Step Pyramid of Djoser, the earliest of Egypt’s great stone monuments, and a beautifully carved noble’s tomb. Return to the city for lunch, then visit the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization, where the royal mummies of pharaohs such as Ramesses II rest in a dedicated gallery. Continue to the Citadel of Saladin for views over the city, and end the day in Khan el-Khalili bazaar among spice stalls, lantern shops and old coffeehouses.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch
Day 4 – Fly to Sharm El Sheikh
After breakfast, transfer to Cairo airport for the flight to Sharm El Sheikh, which takes about an hour. Our representative meets you on arrival and our driver takes you to your all-inclusive 4★ resort, usually 15 to 30 minutes from the airport. Check in, change into something cooler and spend the afternoon on the beach or by the pool. In the evening, take a taxi to Naama Bay or the Old Market for a stroll among cafés and shops.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day 5 – Free Day or Optional Ras Mohammed Boat Trip
Enjoy a full day at leisure at your resort. If you would like to see more of the reefs, join an optional boat trip to Ras Mohammed National Park, at the southern tip of Sinai, where coral walls drop into deep blue water and shoals of reef fish gather. Trips usually include two or three snorkelling stops and lunch on board. Sea conditions decide which sites the captain can visit on the day, so the exact stops can change.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day 6 – Free Day or Optional Mount Sinai Sunrise
Another day to relax by the sea. For something more adventurous, an optional night excursion leaves your hotel around 11pm for the drive to St Catherine. You climb Mount Sinai in the dark with a local Bedouin guide, a walk of about two and a half to three hours, to watch the sunrise from the summit. After descending, visit St Catherine’s Monastery when it is open, then return to Sharm around midday to rest.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day 7 – Departure from Sharm El Sheikh
Enjoy a last breakfast and a final swim before check-out. At the agreed time, our driver takes you to Sharm El Sheikh International Airport for your flight home; many European airlines fly direct from Sharm, especially in winter. If your international flight leaves from Cairo, we can book a connecting domestic flight at extra cost and provide meet and assist in Cairo for the transfer between terminals.
Meals: Breakfast
Good to know: Ras Mohammed and Mount Sinai are optional extras at your own cost; boat routes depend on sea conditions on the day.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a full Egypt visa for this trip?
Yes. The free Sinai-only entry stamp applies only if you stay within the South Sinai resorts. Because this holiday begins in Cairo, you need a standard Egypt visa, which many nationalities can buy on arrival at Cairo airport or apply for online in advance as an e-visa. Our representative helps you with the process at the airport.
Will I see dolphins or turtles while snorkelling?
It is possible, but wildlife sightings can never be guaranteed. Turtles and reef sharks are seen on some trips to Ras Mohammed, and dolphins occasionally appear in the area. What you will reliably see is healthy coral and a great variety of colourful reef fish, often just a few metres from the boat.
How hard is the Mount Sinai climb?
It is a steady uphill walk on a rocky camel path, followed by around 750 steep steps to the summit. Most reasonably fit people manage it in two and a half to three hours. It is cold at the top before dawn, even in summer, so bring warm layers and a torch. Camels can carry you part of the way.
Can I fly home directly from Sharm El Sheikh?
Often, yes. Sharm El Sheikh airport has direct and charter flights to many European cities, especially between October and April. Booking an open-jaw ticket, arriving in Cairo and leaving from Sharm, usually saves time and money. If that is not possible, we can add a domestic flight back to Cairo.
