Tour Overview
This Cairo day trip from Aswan by flight is for travellers based in the south who still want to stand in front of the Great Pyramid. You fly to Cairo early in the morning, spend the day on the Giza Plateau and at the Grand Egyptian Museum with your own Egyptologist, and fly back to Aswan in the evening.
The morning is for the pyramids of Khufu, Khafre and Menkaure, the panoramic viewpoint and the Great Sphinx. After lunch you visit the Grand Egyptian Museum next to the plateau, where the complete Tutankhamun collection is displayed in its own galleries. Return flights, airport transfers in both cities, lunch and entrance tickets for the listed sites are included.

Itinerary
04:30 – Pickup and flight to Cairo
Your driver collects you from your Aswan hotel or Nile cruise for the short drive to Aswan Airport, where our representative helps with check-in. The flight to Cairo takes about one hour and twenty minutes. Exact times depend on that day’s schedule, which we confirm when booking.
08:00 – Arrival and the Giza Plateau
Your Egyptologist meets you in the arrivals hall and you drive to Giza, about an hour away. Walk around the Great Pyramid of Khufu, the only surviving wonder of the ancient world, and see the pyramids of Khafre and Menkaure. Going inside the Great Pyramid is optional, with an extra ticket.
10:30 – Panorama, Sphinx and Valley Temple
Drive to the panoramic viewpoint for the classic photo of all the pyramids in a row. Then descend to the Great Sphinx, carved from the bedrock, and walk through the granite Valley Temple of Khafre, where the king’s body was prepared for burial.
12:30 – Lunch
Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant near the plateau, typically grilled meat or chicken with rice, salads and bread, with vegetarian dishes available. Drinks are extra. It is a welcome rest in the shade before the museum, which is only a few minutes away by car.

13:30 – Grand Egyptian Museum
Spend around three hours at the Grand Egyptian Museum. Climb the Grand Staircase lined with royal statues, see the colossal Ramesses II in the atrium, and visit the Tutankhamun galleries, where the gold mask, chariots and thrones are displayed together. Your guide plans a route to the highlights.
17:00 – Flight back to Aswan
Your driver takes you to Cairo Airport, around 45 minutes from the museum depending on traffic, for the evening flight back to Aswan. On arrival, your driver meets you and takes you to your hotel or cruise, usually between 22:00 and 23:00 depending on the flight.
Good to know: Domestic flight times change with the season and can be delayed. We book flights that leave enough time at the sites, and the order of visits may change to fit the schedule.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is a day trip to Cairo from Aswan realistic?
Yes, by air. The flight takes under an hour and a half each way, which leaves about eight hours in Cairo for the pyramids and the Grand Egyptian Museum. It is a long day, around 17 to 18 hours from pickup to return, so a night in Cairo is more relaxed if you have time.
What if a flight is delayed or cancelled?
Domestic flights are usually reliable but delays happen. We monitor your flights, and if the morning flight is late we reorder the visits so you still see the main sights. If a return flight is cancelled, we will help rebook and arrange a Cairo hotel at cost.
Can we see the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir instead of GEM?
Yes. The Grand Egyptian Museum holds the Tutankhamun collection and is next to the pyramids, so it fits the day best. The Egyptian Museum in Tahrir Square is also open and has a remarkable collection; we can swap the visit if you prefer.
What should we bring?
Bring your passport, which is needed for the domestic flights, plus comfortable walking shoes, a hat and sunscreen for Giza. Pack light: a small bag is easiest at the airports and museum security. Your hotel can prepare a breakfast box for the early flight.
